Some people ask is there a proper way to put it on the mantel scarf?
The answer is “Yes” there is ! Some people think you thumbtack them to the front of the mantle, well, that is a definite “NO, NO“. You will be calling the fire company before the night is over. You actually lay it on top of the mantle shelf, and gently slide it towards the back, next to the wall, and it should hang down over the front of the mantle no more than 9”. You can have a drop on each end of it, or none at all, it depends on your liking. Some people will cover it end to end, like shown in the picture below, with a drop on each end. Others will center it on the mantle with no end drop. The REMOVE BEFORE LIGHTING FIREPLACE so you don’t end calling your local fire department because you didn’t use it properly removed.
